چکیده

p63, a p53 homologue nuclear transcription factor was expressed in basal cells of multilayered epithelia and myoepithelial cells of the breast. 14-3-3 was a putative tumour suppressor gene, transactivated by p53 in response to DNA damage and immunohistochemically demonstrated that 14-3-3 was consistently expressed in the cytoplasmic compartment and occasionally in the nuclei of myoepithelial cells. In the present study, p63 immunoreactivity was restricted to nucleus of myoepithelial cells. Eighty per cent of tumours showed immunopositivity. Mild to moderate staining was noticed. The intensity of staining in carcinomas / carcinosarcomas were mild in 40 per cent, moderate in 25 per cent and intense in 15 per cent. p63 expression was found in 80 per cent of the canine mammary tumours evaluated. Malignant mixed tumours showed 40-80 per cent immunoreactivity. It was 85-95 per cent in spindle cell carcinoma and 70-90 per cent in squamous cell carcinoma. 80-90 per cent p63 immunopositivity was noticed in squamous cell carcinoma. In cystadenoma, no immunoreactivity was observed. 14-3-3 immunoreactivity was observed both in the nuclear and cytoplasmic components of myoepithelial cells. 14-3-3σ immunoreactivity was observed in 95 per cent of the tumours evaluated and immunoreactivity was noticed both in the cytoplasmic and nuclear components. Benign tumours showed 5% expression and malignant mixed tumours showed 25 80 per cent 143-3σ immunoreactivity. Squamous cell carcinoma showed 80 per cent immunoreactivity.

Morphology of the Myoepithelial Cell: Immunohistochemical Characterization from Resting to Motile Phase

Myoepithelium is present in canine mammary tumors as resting and proliferative suprabasal and spindle and stellate interstitial cells. The aim of this paper was to evaluate a panel of markers for the identification of four different myoepithelial cell morphological types in the normal and neoplastic mammary gland and to investigate immunohistochemical changes from an epithelial to a mesenchymal...

Immunohistochemical Expression of p53 and p63 in Adenomas and Carcinomas of Canine Mammary Glands

Mammary tumors are very common in female dogs and its prognosis varies significantly according to the tumor invasion degree. Myoepithelial layer destruction is considered a differential diagnosis parameter of in situ from invasive lesions in human breast cancer. Aiming to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of p63, a protein specifically expressed by myoepithelial cells of mammary gland...

Novel and classic myoepithelial/stem cell markers in metaplastic carcinomas of the breast.

Metaplastic carcinomas of the breast (MCBs) are unusual neoplasms characterized by an admixture of glandular epithelial components, which frequently exhibit features of squamous differentiation, and mesenchymal malignant components. Regardless of the presence of myoepithelial features in MCB, no consensus concerning their putative histogenesis has yet been achieved. Recently, novel putative myo...

Clinicopathologic Significance of P63, Maspin and MMP-2 Expression in Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma

Background and Aim: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the salivary glands with complex histopathologic features and clinical behavior. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinicopathologic significance of p63, Maspin and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 expression in MEC. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, immunohistochemical stain...

The transactivating isoforms have similar actions with p53, while the N-isoforms inhibit transcription activation by p53 and transactivating isoforms. p63 is expressed in stratified epithelia and in basal cells of the prostate and salivary glands. In mammary epithelium p63 has been shown to be expressed only in the myoepithelial layer. In the present study we investigated the immunohistochemica...
